Drake - Surfing Pirate

Drake Normal

A former pirate, Drake is a sea-faring captain who has had one too many cod fillets. He rules the waves but can't stand heights.

Day To Day Abilities

  • 120% attack power with naval units
  • 90% attack power with aircraft

COP - Tsunami ****

  • 1hp damage to all enemy units
  • Enemy fuel supplies halved
  • 110% attack/defence

A giant wave crashes down on all opposing forces, doing 1hp damage to every one. Sadly it is only water after all, and therefore cannot completely destroy any unit. All that salt water leaks into enemy fuel tanks, halving their fuel supplies. 110% attack and defence on all units.

SCOP - Typhoon ----***

  • 2hp damage to all enemy units
  • Enemy fuel supplies havled
  • Rain for 2 days
  • 110% attack/defence

An even bigger wave engulfs all enemy units, doing 2hp damage to them and slicing their fuel in half. So much water is bound to leave its mark on the geography, and so it becomes rainy until Drake's turn after next turn. 110% attack and defence for all!

Arrr, good pals be these. Both powers are nice and would string together pretty well, but you're still faced with the strength/weakness thing - half your army will be rubbish at any one time. Nice.

Notes & Tactics

Drake

Drake's powers mean enemy units will be constantly heading back to bases for supplies and repairs, so use every opportunity to march in and bust up some forces. It's up to you which power you decide to use at any given time, Tsunami is good to irritate opponents and hit their fuel tanks as easily as possible, but Typhoon is also good to give them a minor bashing and plunge the field into fog, ready for a swift follow-up.

You can use the FoW (and reduced vision) given by the rain to sneak forward your army under cover of darkness, or make a quick getaway.

If there is enough sea around, Drake will rule over everywhere, as his naval units will pack more of a punch - one-hit killing subs with cruisers (not to mention the extra damage his cruisers can land on other boats) and very much deterring airspace users.

One simultaneous help and bane to Drake's game is the Black Boat. On the plus side, it lets him keep his navy afloat and supplied without having to trek back to ports, wasting time. But it also harms Drake's game as enemies can refuel their air and seacraft more easily than before. You'll have your subs ready to deal with that though, eh?

As ever, his planes and copters are fairly useless bits of decoration, with transport copters best worth the construction funds. It may be wise at times to build a fighter or copter for specific uses, but try not to rely on aircraft (alike Jess). This means (surprisingly) Drake isn't a good choice for maps that rely heavily on aircraft. Avast ye!
